Bendroflumethiazide
Also known as: Aprinox
What it's for
Bendroflumethiazide is a water tablet (diuretic). It helps your body get rid of extra water and salt. It lowers blood pressure and reduces swelling from fluid build-up.
Comes as: Tablets
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 2.5mg once a day in the morning.
- Take in the morning so you are not up at night needing the toilet.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Drink plenty of fluids unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Needing to pass urine more often
- Feeling thirsty
- Feeling dizzy when you stand up
- Muscle cramps

Important safety points
- Can lower potassium levels - your doctor may check your blood regularly
- May raise blood sugar - tell your doctor if you have diabetes
- Can make gout worse
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have severe muscle cramps or weakness
- You have an irregular heartbeat
- You feel very thirsty and pass very little urine
- You have severe dizziness or fainting
