Calcium and Vitamin D

Also known as: Calcichew D3, Adcal D3, Cacit D3

What it's for

Calcium and vitamin D supplement for bone health. It is used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiency, especially in people with osteoporosis or at risk of it.

Comes as: Chewable tablets or effervescent tablets

How to take it

  • Adults: Usually 1 or 2 tablets daily.
  • Chew the tablets - do not swallow whole.
  • Effervescent tablets dissolve in water.
  • Can be taken with or without food.

Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.

Common side effects

  • Constipation
  • Wind or bloating
  • Feeling sick

The leaflet inside the packet lists all known side effects.

Important safety points

  • Do not take more than recommended - too much calcium can be harmful
  • Take 2 hours apart from some antibiotics and other medicines
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or high calcium levels
  • Keep well hydrated

Get medical help urgently if…

  • You have severe constipation or stomach pain
  • You feel very thirsty and are passing lots of urine
  • You feel confused or very tired
  • You have muscle weakness
