Cyclizine
Also known as: Valoid
What it's for
Cyclizine prevents and treats nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness. It works by blocking signals to the vomiting centre in your brain.
Comes as: Tablets or injection
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 50mg up to 3 times daily.
- For travel sickness: Take 1 to 2 hours before travelling.
- Take with or without food.
- Do not exceed 150mg in 24 hours.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Constipation

Important safety points
- Causes drowsiness - do not drive or operate machinery if affected
- Avoid alcohol
- Not suitable if you have glaucoma or difficulty passing urine
- Tell your doctor if you have heart failure
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have difficulty passing urine
- You have eye pain or vision changes
- You have a fast or irregular heartbeat
- You have signs of an allergic reaction
