Desogestrel
Also known as: Cerazette, Cerelle, Feanolla, Mini Pill, POP
What it's for
Desogestrel is a progestogen-only pill (mini pill) for contraception. It is suitable for women who cannot take oestrogen. Take it at the same time every day.

How to take it
- Take 1 pill every day without a break.
- Take at the same time each day (within 12-hour window).
- Continue through your period.
- Start the next pack immediately after finishing.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Irregular periods or spotting (common at first)
- Periods may stop completely
- Acne
- Breast tenderness
- Mood changes
The leaflet inside the packet lists all known side effects.
Important safety points
- Must take at the same time each day for effectiveness
- Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections
- If you vomit within 3 hours of taking, take another pill
- Some medicines may reduce effectiveness
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have severe stomach pain (possible ectopic pregnancy)
- You have yellowing of your skin or eyes
- You think you might be pregnant
- You have signs of a blood clot (rare)
