Diclofenac Gel
Also known as: Voltarol, Voltaren
What it's for
Diclofenac gel is an anti-inflammatory painkiller applied to the skin. It treats muscle and joint pain, sprains, and arthritis. It works where you apply it with fewer side effects than tablets.

How to take it
- Apply 2 to 4 times daily depending on the product.
- Gently rub into the affected area.
- Wash hands after applying (unless treating hands).
- Do not use for more than 2 weeks without advice.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Skin irritation, itching, or rash at application site
- Dry skin
- Redness

Important safety points
- Do not apply to broken skin, wounds, or infected areas
- Keep away from eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes
- Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds on treated areas
- Do not use with airtight dressings
Get medical help urgently if…
- You develop a severe skin reaction or blistering
- You have signs of an allergic reaction
- You accidentally get it in your eyes (rinse immediately)
- You have asthma and it gets worse after using
