Edoxaban
Also known as: Lixiana
What it's for
Edoxaban thins your blood to prevent blood clots. It is used for atrial fibrillation and to treat or prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism.
Comes as: Tablets
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 60mg once a day (30mg if you have kidney problems or low weight).
- Take at the same time each day.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Bleeding or bruising more easily
- Feeling sick
- Itchy skin or rash
- Headache

Important safety points
- Tell doctors and dentists you take a blood thinner
- Avoid activities with high risk of injury
- Some medicines interact with edoxaban
- Does not require regular blood tests like warfarin
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have bleeding that will not stop
- You cough up blood or have blood in your vomit
- You have a sudden severe headache
- You have blood in your urine or black stools
