Fexofenadine
Also known as: Telfast, Allevia
What it's for
Fexofenadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine for hay fever and chronic hives. It is particularly good for allergies that have not responded to other antihistamines.
Comes as: Tablets
How to take it
- For hay fever: Usually 120mg once daily.
- For hives: Usually 180mg once daily.
- Take at the same time each day.
- Avoid taking with fruit juice (reduces absorption).
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Headache
- Drowsiness (rare)
- Feeling sick
- Dizziness

Important safety points
- Do not take with fruit juice (apple, orange, grapefruit) - reduces effectiveness
- Take with water only
- Generally does not cause drowsiness
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney or heart problems
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have signs of severe allergic reaction
- You have a fast or irregular heartbeat
- You have difficulty breathing
- You have severe skin reaction
