Fluticasone
Also known as: Flixotide, Flovent
What it's for
Fluticasone is a steroid preventer inhaler for asthma. It reduces inflammation in your airways to prevent symptoms and attacks. Use it regularly even when well.
Comes as: Inhaler
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 100 to 500 micrograms twice daily.
- Dose depends on how severe your asthma is.
- Rinse your mouth after use.
- Use at the same times each day.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Hoarse voice
- Oral thrush
- Sore throat
The leaflet inside the packet lists all known side effects.
Important safety points
- This is a preventer, not a reliever
- Always rinse your mouth after use
- Do not stop suddenly without advice
- High doses used long-term may have steroid side effects
Get medical help urgently if…
- Your asthma symptoms are getting worse
- Your reliever is not working
- You have signs of an infection (fever, feeling unwell)
- You have severe thrush that won't clear
