Loratadine
Also known as: Clarityn, Claritin
What it's for
Loratadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine for hay fever and allergies. It relieves sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin rashes caused by allergies.
Comes as: Tablets or liquid
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 10mg once a day.
- Take at the same time each day.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Effects last 24 hours.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Headache
- Drowsiness (uncommon)
- Dry mouth
- Feeling tired

- Tell your doctor if you have liver problems
- Can be taken during pregnancy if needed - ask your doctor
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have signs of severe allergic reaction despite taking it
- You have a fast or irregular heartbeat
- You have severe drowsiness or confusion
- You have difficulty breathing
