Ramipril
Also known as: Tritace
What it's for
Ramipril lowers high blood pressure and protects your heart and kidneys. It is often used after a heart attack or if you have heart failure or diabetes.
Comes as: Capsules or tablets
How to take it
- Adults: Usually start with 1.25mg to 2.5mg once a day.
- Your doctor may gradually increase the dose.
- Take at the same time each day, with or without food.
- Swallow the capsule whole with water.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- A dry, tickly cough that does not go away
- Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
- Headache
- Feeling tired

Important safety points
- Not suitable if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems
- May cause dizziness when you stand up - get up slowly
- Avoid potassium supplements unless your doctor tells you to
- Tell your doctor if the cough becomes troublesome
Get medical help urgently if…
- You have swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
- You have difficulty breathing
- You feel faint or dizzy and cannot recover
- You have chest pain
