Solifenacin
Also known as: Vesicare
What it's for
Solifenacin treats overactive bladder symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. It relaxes the bladder muscle to help you hold more urine.
Comes as: Tablets
How to take it
- Adults: Usually 5mg once daily, may be increased to 10mg.
- Take at the same time each day.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Swallow whole with water.
Doses here are typical. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or on the packet — they come first.
Common side effects
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Blurred vision
- Drowsiness

Important safety points
- Drink plenty of water if you have a dry mouth
- Not suitable if you have urinary retention or severe stomach problems
- May affect your vision - take care when driving
- Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma or liver problems
Get medical help urgently if…
- You cannot pass urine
- You have severe stomach pain or constipation
- You have eye pain with blurred vision
- You have difficulty breathing
